Michael J. Yacavone
Strategic, innovative, authentic
Michael Yacavone is a management consultant and entrepreneur interested in understanding the motivation and sentiment of customers, employees, and other stakeholders; and transforming these conceptual insights into customer-friendly products and services.
Mr. Yacavone has started three companies and played key roles in two VC-funded high-tech startups, creating results with both senior executives and engineers. He has created or been instrumental in delivering 12 commercial products, and is skilled at synthesizing ideas from disparate fields and creating holistic models to define, develop, and deploy new or improved products and services. His software product development experience includes applications for mass-customization manufacturing, customer relationship management, direct marketing list brokerage and management, Web 2.0 social media, quantitative media analysis, complex website management, and philanthropic donor recognition. Each of these product development efforts involved a significant stakeholder research component, which frequently changed fundamental assumptions of the projects.
Michael is a consulting member of the Society for Organizational Learning which connects organizations, researchers, and consultants to generate knowledge about, and capacity for, fundamental innovation and change. He uses SenseMaker and Cognitive Edge methods to apply insight from science and the humanities to assist organizations with truly complex problems and opportunities. He serves as a Director and past president of the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society, Inc., a member-owned cooperative grocery business founded in 1936 with five locations, 350 employees and annual revenue of $68 million. He also serves as a Director of Heritance, non-profit developers of a participatory, non-commercial online exhibit space at OpenMuseum.org.
I have always been interested in peoplewho we are, how we relate, what motivates us. For 12 years I have worked with clients in higher-education, government, non-profit, high-tech, and industry sectors to create new products and services. Along the way I have always cultivated action research, learning, and iterative emergence. I invite your active participation in our work together.
"You're an amazing intellectual catalyst." —Chip Evans, The Branding Idea
