Collaborative Associates

Deep, experienced, forging the future

We have worked with a wide variety of partners and collaborators, both leading client engagements and supporting other professional associates. Two primary collaborators are Kathryn Lively (research) and Marty Himmlestein (technology).

Kathryn J. Lively, Ph.D. Kathryn J. Lively, Ph.D.
Dr. Lively is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Dartmouth College. Using the sociology of emotion as a starting point, she has examined how emotional experiences, processes, and expressions operate in both specific contexts (e.g., work and family) as well as within the general population, regardless of context. She has used qualitative data, quantitative survey data, and computer simulations (and in some cases, all three) to elucidate core questions within the sociology of emotion and show how questions regarding emotion link to broader sociological concerns, such as stratification, professionalism, mental health, coping, social support, equity, and identity. More details are available at her website.

Marty Himmelstein Marty Himmelstein
Marty's technology interests include databases, Internet search, and web-based information systems. For the last eleven years, Marty has been active in location-based searching on the web, a field often called Local Search. Local Search combines not only interesting engineering challenges, but lots of frontier. What does the ideal local search service look like? How will the evolution of the web facilitate the creation and dissemination of better local content? The ubiquity of people's need for local information suggests that Local Search is one of a handful of applications that all Internet users will use. Earlier in his career, Marty worked on operating systems and data communication networks. More details are available at his website.

"This was truly a collaborative, intensive effort at all levels and in all areas of the office of Development of a quality that I have rarely, if ever, seen in my career in advancement. And it came in on time and on budget." —Sylvia Racca, Dartmouth College Fund
